"The course [of lectures] will show us how intimately the interests of agriculture are bound, in all directions, with the widest spheres of life. Indeed, there is scarcely a realm of human life that lies outside our subject. From one aspect or another, all interests of human life belong to agriculture."

Rudolf Steiner, 1924

Welcome to Lin's Garden

The main purpose of Lin's Garden is to provide a forum to advocate and advance the mission of alternative farming and gardening and to build a resource center to support the preservation and dissemination of heirloom and open pollinating fruits, vegetables, and flowers. In that spirit, I invite you to contribute to the dialogue by emailing me news, points of interest, tips, information about organizations not currently listed, or books, magazines, newsletters, or reviews to add to the Resources section.

The Armchair Gardener section catalogues my family's adventures as we migrate from suburban living to life on "the farm." The snippets posted here may inspire or frighten others contemplating such a transition and will certainly invoke laughter or sympathy from the more seasoned farmer.

New postings include my heritage seed selection 2002, my perennials, seeds saved from our 2001 harvest, bird watch, and our "Farm Wish List."

For May, I'm introducing our Small Market Farmer Network, featuring Bear Spring Farm in Middletown, Maryland. Check it out! As for Lin's Garden, click on Armchair Gardener to keep abreast of when our own homegrown produce might be available.

If you're so inclined, try out Myths from the Garden, which over time will become a compilation of eclectic and sundry stories from friends and family...heirlooms in their own right that will be preserved through the telling.

Well, that lays out my garden; let's see what grows!
